BeeGod I loved everything in this book. Rowan and Sloane are a match made in heaven. Or hell. Or purgatory. Idk man, two serial killers with a penchant for killing other killers and a similar penchant for getting under each other's skin. Metaphorically of course (I had to clarify, I mean, hello, serial killers!) These two had such beautiful growth together. Their banter was fun and witty. When it finally came time for the **** scenes WHEWWWW, they were hot. I got to read some **** stuff that I never see in published works. It was so so so good. The narrators were impeccable, giving such life to the story and having exceptional chemistry and banter. Their scenes were well acted, leaving me able to FEEL what the characters felt. And oooooh boy, the **** scenes were GOOD. I was blushing and grinning and occasionally hollering to myself. This was my first duet narration book and I think it had irrevocably changes me. I worry for whatever the next audiobook I pick up, I fear it'll never be able to compare. Tropes this book had that I loved: - Friends to Lovers - Slow burn - He falls first AND harder - Touch them and die - grumpy/sunshine (she's the grumpy one!) Definitely mind the trigger warnings! Though this book is fun and often funny, it is about serial killers. There is definitely some gore and some gross scenes. But it's so worth it!
BeeThis book has singlehandedly convinced me that I can like blue alien books. Specifically, this has turned me into a Ruby Dixon believer. This book has tempted me to abandon my carefully curated TBR list and start a Ruby Dixon binge, starting with the Risdaverse. No but seriously. This book had so many things I love, and things I didn't know I loved until I read it. We got hot aliens, we got grumpy sunshine, we got forced proximity. Jerrok and Sophie are literally meant to be. Their slow build relationship felt wholly genuine, especially when navigating both of their traumas. Jerrok spent so much time being grouchy, but when he finally opened up to Sophie, it was beyond sweet. And their spice, god, it was so hot. This review would be incomplete without me mentioning Sleipnir. I adored that big weird cat adjacent alien thing. I just thought he was the most fascinating thing!
BeeOH MY GOD. I don't even know how to be NORMAL about this book. This was amazing. Basically everything I've ever wanted in a romance. I am shook. Things I loved that I hope to coherently elaborate upon in the future: - The sparring as foreplay - The found family - The two leaders falling for each other - The making meals for each other - The ENDEARMENTS in other languages - The makeouts are so hot wtf - The entire parking garage scene 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵 - THE ******* BETRAYAL - THE LIFE DEBT - THE POOL SCENE - AND THEN THE SHOWER SCENE - EVERY MOMENT OF TENSION I COULD EVER DEVOUR If I had to critique, I would've preferred just a bit more explicit for the actual spice scene. This is open door, but not explicit. Even still, it was one of the hottest books I have read. The tension was delicious. God I can't wait to start the next book. But also, I feel like I need to think about this alone for like, the next two days at least. My god.
BeeThis was a five star read for me. T Kingfisher's world was endlessly fascinating and interesting. Even while the characters are experiencing terrifying things, the author finds a way to keep the levity. This book was scary, but the characters made me laugh out loud more than once. Highly recommend!
BeeThis book was amazing. As the first in a duology that is part of an even bigger world, it did feel like it ended a bit abruptly. But the characters are amazing and the world building is fascinating. T Kingfisher is the best at adding levity to her work via tone. There were times I laughed out loud while reading this. And the budding romance is so lovely and full of yearning, I can wait to see where it leads.
