CaelUnderlying theme? Healthy vs Unhealthy relationship dynamics and treatment. I LOVE seeing Mickey and Jules interact because it's VERY clear how much they genuinely love, care for, and respect one another. The writers and actors did a good job at showing the contrast between Mickey/Jules' relationship and George/Gloria's relationship, besides the bat **** craziness. All the actors/actresses did a great job in this one, but it's for sure another W performance from Kyra Sedgwick and Bill Skarsgård. The range these two have displayed throughout their career is just amazing. (Which, if you haven't seen Bill Skarsgård and Landon Liboiron in Hemlock Grove yet, omg, go watch it what are you doing??) The plot seems like, I dunno. For the length of the movie, I feel like maybe there should have been more plot points along the way, but honestly the plot doesn't leave anything to be desired anyway. So, I think it's just the right amount of satisfactory. I'd say compared to other horror movies and thrillers, you DO want to yell at the characters, but not in a "stop being stupid" way, more of a dramatic irony way like Romeo and Juliet not being on the same page way. The ending? *Chef's kiss* Amazing. I know some people will or have already asked questions about why other things weren't done instead of the actual ending, to which I say go suck an egg. I won't say any more so I can avoid spoilers. It's a feel-good ending all around. In my opinion anyway. As far as content warnings go, I would not recommend this movie to people with triggers including blood, talk about inflicting pain in sensitive areas, drugs, drug use, drug overdose, etc. If anyone wants to discuss or debate the theme of the movie being relationship dynamics, I'm VERY willing to talk about it respectfully. But, anyone reading this should know that that discussion will contain spoilers.
CaelWhether you love it or hate it, the Barbie movie is a MUST see. If you think you understand every level to the movie, watch it again. Join discussions. Read some dissection of the movie. Watch it another time. There is so much to take away from this movie. And seriously if the men in your life think it's an anti-man and femi-nazi kind of movie, please take that as a red flag. Do what you will with it, but recognize it for the red flag that it is.
Cael⭐⭐⭐— It's a good watch. Funny, heartfelt, goofy, real. Native American costume at the college party in the hallway left a bad taste in my mouth, but that's to be expected with older movies. Other than that, solid movie! A little predictable, but an easy classic.
CaelIf I could I'd rate this 🌟3.5/5🌟 but because I can't, I'll give it a 3. Here's the no bs, honest review of Death Note. Here's the thing. It's not as bad as everyone says. It's not, like, *fantastic*, but it doesn't deserve the hate. I'm a die-hard Death Note (anime) fan, it was my first anime, it's nostalgic for me, I've binged it so many times I can basically recite the dialogue as it happens. After I finish this review I'm going to binge it again. I read reviews before watching the movie, I was curious, and when I saw it was generally poorly received, I thought, well, I'll watch it to see how bad it is for a laugh. I was wrong to go in with that mindset. I was pleasantly surprised by this movie! I agree with the reviews though, this movie strayed SO far from the original, even altering the Death Note itself. However, it's a movie targeted at a general, not-necessarily-anime-loving U.S. audience, as well as the anime-loving fan base. It took some liberties to make it its own. Understandable. If you had never watched Death Note before, this would be a really decently enjoyable movie. The reasons I took away stars from a 5/5 include the following: poorly explained details, questionable acting, and the ending, which left much to be desired. Just, no resolution imo. Acting wise, Mia seemed a little stale, but I think that was on purpose given the ending. Then, THEN, L. I have NO idea if it was intentional or not, but Stanfield portrayed L like a ******* 2 year old drinking a gallon of soda for the first time. Off the WALLS. The LOOK in his eyes. Like I get they kept the quirk of L eating sweets but my GOD. For being the best and most intelligent detective in the world, this guy sure is using his actions more than his words, and not a lot of intellect. But that's not acting, that's writing. But yeah, didn't explain much at all, like Ryuk's intentions, or how L knew Kira needed a name and a face, for example. I could go on but I'm running out of room.
CaelIt looks cheesy, I know. I know. Give it a chance. Watch it. It's funny. It just sucks that D'Elia had to turn out to be the way he is lately, and what he's done, y'know. ANYWAY, between halfway through and the end I looked over to my mother, who I was watching this with at the time, and we both agreed this was NOT the direction we thought the movie was going 😂 If you're a horror junkie, no, I wouldn't call this horror. It's definitely a comedy/parody kind of movie. Wholesome. Lesbian representation. The wife there, Samantha, was irritating AF though. The same kind of irritating when someone does something so obviously stupid in a horror movie that you know that no human in their right mind would ever do it. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad acting, but her character just drives me up a wall. OTHER THAN THAT, solid movie. The trailer undersold it, but it had to or else it would spoil everything.
CaelIf you think that you can't get attached to a fictional robot you're mistaken. This movie is heartfelt and you can tell it was made with passion. Beautiful animation and effects, touching story, and lovable characters. Not a lighthearted movie, however.
