"The references throughout to Poe's works were amazing.... I quite enjoyed this. I love the last confession narrative that this story unfolds through. It has the dark, melancholic, decadent feeling overall much like Poe's work. Recommended. Oh, and
Mark Hamill as Pym... Yes.
If you don't know, Stevie Nicks made a song out of "Annabel Lee" and it is wonderful. It's on her "In Your Dreams" album. If you haven't heard it, check it out. "

"🐦⬛ DISCLAIMER: I’m not so sure I’m a fan of #HorrorTV — particularly since I rarely watch #HorrorMovies — however….
🐦⬛ Solid acting across the board, good #jump scares here & there, references & nods to the familiar prose of Edgar Allen Poe heavily sprinkled throughout, and an excellent production value make this a very worthy series if you’re a #MikeFlanagan or #horror_thriller fan.
🐦⬛ I particularly enjoyed the flashbacks to the 1950s & 1980s, as well as the storytelling steeped in mystery, as told by Roderick Usher, the family patriarch played ever so brilliantly by Bruce Greenwood.
His story tells us of the events that led to the demise of this modern day family and the deaths of each & every one of his six very spoiled & entitled bratty offspring. Carla Gugino brought the #horror & gave an equally formidable & commanding performance.🐦⬛
⚠️ This show contains some sexually explicit language & content."

"Disclaimer: I’m an uneducated heathen when it comes to Poe, which this is sort of based on. Though not one of my genres, I watch everything Mike Flanagan makes because I like everything he’s ever done. In my opinion, this is not quite as good as HHH and MM but probably a little better than HBM and TMC. Great cast and some powerhouse performances. Carla Gugino and Mark Hamill are amazing and Carl Lumbly should win some awards. Super original. But like most of Flanagan’s stuff, its really well written and it’s almost completely dire without much of a happy ending. Well, unless watching a family of the most horrible people ever known get sadistically hunted is your thing. Which I can understand if so. "

"Mike Flanagan has done it again, another banger of a show that I couldn’t stop watching and ended up staying up tell 4am just so I could see what happens next! I love the way he used Edger Allen Poe stories to tell a over arching story about what greed dose to people and the length they will go for money and power even to the point of putting their life and the people around them lives in danger. I don’t want say to much about the plot or themes because it’s really worth the watch and experiencing it for ones self! "

"A collection of the works by Edgar Allan Poe joined together with a modern twist. Though tagged as horror, it is also quite comedic in places, I assume intentionally, which in no way takes away from the horror scenes and gory deaths. I think it does a good job of balancing the story and timelines: present, recent/immediate past, and further past. It was hard to tell if the writers were trying to add a mystery element, but I would argue it wasn't really there, both because it's based on well known stories and because whatever they added themselves was relatively predictable (or maybe they didn't add anything and I just wasn't familiar with those parts). Regardless, I don't think the show is missing anything from not having it as the creativity of the concept and execution are still great. 8.5/10🫀🐈⬛🧱🐦⬛🪦

"Literally one of the best things I've seen this year (next to Oppenheimer and Equalizer 3). Mike Flanagan has outdone himself! And the entire cast along side the multitalented and oh so stellar Carla Gugino and Mark Hamill just brought it! Just wow!"

"Mike Flanagan just resurrected Egdar Allan Poe's genius by adapating his short story and framing it in an arc of 21st century. For a guy, who's hasn't seen much horror content, this was a chilling descent into the abyss of psychological horror.
The stunning thing about this series is how the horror is portrayed - via vivid imagery and eerie atmosphere (kudos to the directors). The performances by Bruce Greenwood and Carla Gugino were truly spectacular and the production & sound design throughout the 8 episodes was top-notch especially the color palletes.
Unconcerned grief. A parable of decadence. Unsettling absurdity.
Mike Flanagan please don’t stop making TV shows you are the best when it comes to horror series. I hate that this will be your last Netflix show smh. It definitely won’t be the same.
Similar To: Think Succession meets AHS two of my favorite shows."
