"These shows are extremely problematic. Many, if not most autistic people agree. It's damaging in the long run, allowing tons of people to stay narrow-minded and ignorant when it comes to REAL Autistic people. This show may make you feel good but it shouldn't. Go meet a real Autistic adult and realize they are just people who don't function exactly the way you do. Go learn about how the biggest Autism non-profit in the US, “Autism Speaks”, was founded with ableist ideals and twisted societal views on autism. So they have social differences and have repetitive behaviours.. get over it. They shouldn't need to change to make you feel more comfortable with their presence. This show is very obviously from the perspective of what Neurotypical people want, not what an autistic person needs. They are taught meaningless behaviours instead of learning about important emotional connections. How will Neurotypical behaviours they don't identify with, behaviours their autistic partner won't even notice for that matter, help them be happy? The parents are the focus for some reason, while the people this show is ACTUALLY ABOUT obviously aren't given the autonomy or respect they deserve as human beings. Not only is it horribly infantilizing, it only portrays a TINY portion of the spectrum. Autistic people don't want your pity. They want respect and support. "
