In both cases, they come for death.Three-thousand years ago, humans were hunted by powerful races with wild magic until the treaty was formed. Now, for centuries, the elves have taken a young woman from Luella's village to be their Human Queen. To be chosen is seen as a mark of death by the townsfolk. A mark nineteen-year-old Luella is grateful to have escaped as a girl. Instead, she's dedicated her life to studying herbology and becoming the town's only healer. That is, until the Elf King unexpectedly arrives... for her.Everything Luella had thought she'd known about her life, and herself, was a lie. Taken to a land filled with wild magic, Luella is forced to be the new queen to a cold yet blisteringly handsome Elf King. Once there, she learns about a dying world that only she can save. The magical land of Midscape pulls on one corner of her heart, her home and people tug on another... but what will truly break her is a passion she never wanted.A Deal with the Elf King is a complete, stand-alone novel, inspired by the tales of Hades and Persephone, as well as Beauty and the Beast, with a "happily ever after" ending. "Well the book cover got me again. I mean look at it so soft and alluring, nothing like the words inside. To be quite frank this was just boring. Usually a plain story can be saved by funny banter or even a unique take on a fictional world. Sadly this had none of that. And as for worlds kept alive by magic there was no rich atmosphere to be found here.

Oh boy, the second book this week that the synopsis read "Well if you like A Court of Thorns and Roses or Uprooted." Ugh no I like both and A Deal with the Elf King ain't even in the vicinity of those. Honestly do us all a favor and when they mention other titles again, read those titles they indicate and you'll be far better off in the long run.

Everything was predictable except the ending which wasn't a good thing. I didn't predict it because it was so overly easy that I'm really bewildered at how some other Queen hasn't fixed it already. I almost feel as if I misread somewhere along the way and was dumbfounded when I realized, yes that was in fact all she or anyone had to do once for the past THOUSAND YEARS to be of no consequence.

Luella was the outline of a herbalist. She healed everyone no matter their station and cringed at the thought of hurting people. Of course that's all good on paper. She had little backbone and was outright oblivious to literally everything. She loved Luke by the way but we had to shove him out pretty quickly because you know who is coming to town and we can't have a rival. I know people died but she was too harsh when it came to him and very fickle.

Luella is also too contradictory with Eldas. She pushes him away and at the same time says "His broad back has become an icy wall I will never be able to scale." Made me want to pull my hair up by the roots. "For once I gave an order like a queen and they listened." No I don't think a queen would say please.

Eldas Gods bless him was so vanilla, honestly his younger brother was more riveting than him. Though him and Luella both were so hot and cold I got to the point I didn't care anymore. Luella would act like her affections are one sided as she relentlessly refuses him and Eldas kept coming back for more. I couldn't bring myself to care for any of the characters and the inner monolog became repeative.

This story had a beautiful map, which by the way, is my favorite. But it didn't need one. I don't believe I have ever said that in my life. It didn't need one because they didn't go anywhere or do anything. I felt nothing while flipping through the pages in a mechanical motion. I kept asking myself why did you finish? I knew it wasn't going to get better that was obvious but it wasn't a very long story and I tend to dnf quickly. Leave me alone life is too short. These words lacked any emotion and numb feeling stayed with me all the while.

Honestly I could have dealt with the characters it's just that the plot was not well thought out. The history was not explained. The magic system was like either you have it or you don't. Don't even get me started on the fade and void? I dunno I thought they were the same place *shrug*. The Fae and the Elves melted together with me. I didn't see much difference. There were a myriad of plot holes and I couldn't navigate through.....but I finished. *sarcastic wahoo*"
"Oh my word, this book was one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. This is no joke. Just the way the story was told made me so invested in the characters, especially the characters that aren’t meant to be the most ‘likable’ or impactful. Every character had a story which explained their actions and why they did what they did. The world-building was absolutely stellar and I definitely plan on reading more from the Married to Magic novels, as well as from Elise Kova’s other series, which I’ve already begun collecting😌. Highly recommend this to anyone who likes fantasy, romance and breathe-taking storytelling😮💨🤭❤️"
"⭐️ 4/5 🌶 2/5 | First book of the “Married to Magic” series, which are standalone stories in the same world. Fantasy Romance with elves and humans, but introduce other species like the fae and vampires for the coming books. Not a whole lot of spice with more sexual tension than anything, slightly graphic but end up being fade to black. Tropes ~ arranged/destined marriage, unknown power, fulfilling destiny"
