"A great live action adaptation of the animated film of the same name, with new slight adaptations of the original songs as well as new songs dropped within the film! Worth watching as the world built from the 1989 film is expanded and given an underwater feel, while the main characters are seeking more then love though they go on a journey of the heart!"
"This live adaptation of the beloved Disney classic animation was actually really beautiful. Vibrant colors and wonderfully rendered digital animation enhanced the live footage. Melissa McCarthy was perfectly cast as Ursula, she killed it. But I felt that it was unnecessarily long and some of the songs didn't have the same punch as the original. 7/10"
"I had my reservations about this adaptation (mostly due to the weird animal animations, lighting and lyric changes), but I have to say this film really impressed. The songs were stunning with Halle Bailey’s vocals taking center stage (as they rightfully should!) and the lyric changes weren’t as noticeable as I thought they’d be. I also really loved how Lin-Manuel added songs for Eric and some minor characters like Scuttle. Eric’s new song was very pretty and Jonah Hauer-King has a good singing voice (though it did come out a bit poppy as opposed to musical theatre-esque). Scuttle’s song was funny (leave it to LMM to put in a rap-esque song) and Awkwafina was much better in her role than I thought she’d be. Along with Scuttle, I adored Jacob Tremblay’s Flounder and Daveed Diggs’ Sebastian was hilarious. Melissa McCarthy was also surprisingly pretty great as Ursula. I didn’t know she could sing! And the actress they had play Vanessa was amazing in her short time on screen! As for the story, I think the changes added some much needed depth to the plot and nuance to Eric and Ariel’s relationship. The couple had a lot more chemistry in this adaption and the changes gave them more common ground with both of them having a hobby in collecting interesting trinkets and a thirst to explore. It made them so much easier to root for. My one big complaint on their relationship was that their long awaited kiss was like one sec??? Like we’ve been waiting all movie for this? Could’ve been better. The last thing I will say about this movie is I loved the emphasis added to Triton and Ariel’s relationship. I especially loved Triton’s line at the end: “You shouldn’t have had to lose your voice in order for me to hear you.” Very moving. Over all, this is definitely in my top 5 Disney live action adaptations."
"I have opinions. I thought it was really well done, and I liked it a lot; however, a couple things bothered me. I did not like the added songs, I thought it was unnecessary. Like, why? Also, what happened to Chef Louis? It was one of my favorite scenes! I thought that Scuttle being a girl was going to bother me, but I honestly didn't mind at all. I think the voice actress did a great job. Speaking of actresses, Melissa McCarthy SMASHED. She was hands down the best casted. Sebastian was also on point. I loved that the movie was also very funny! Made me laugh out loud multiple times. "
"I liked this more than I expected, based on previous live action Disney princess movies my expectations were low, but I feel like they took a few more liberties with this one. It was kept mostly true to the original and every change made only enhanced the story. I wouldn't say I loved all the new songs (I believe there were 3), each had a piece in it that made me go "oop okay nope" and I was reminded why I don't like musical theatre. Still worth a watch though! 8/10 (not taking the music into consideration cause I'm pretty biased against it) "
"Great acting just I’m not a fan of the little mermaid story knowing the truth about it. "

"Finally got to see this. May not have been a "Copy and Paste" of the original, but it was still really good. In some scenes Halle Bailey actually sounded exactly like Jodi Benson, and I've seen the original well over 60+ times so to me that was mind-blowing. Her acting was incredible too. Javier Bardem played such a great King Triton!! Love the pearlescent armor! The sister, stunning. The representation, stunning. Prince Eric being adopted, brilliant. Some songs and scenes from the original I missed but this one came pretty darn close so I truly have no complaints! They did a great job."
