"After hearing so many people gush over this series, I finally gave it a shot. And honestly, I don't see what all the fuss is about.
I can appreciate the production value of making everything look period correct for the 60s, but beyond that there's not much to write home about. This would have been better if it was an hour and a half long movie. But no, it had to be dragged out over 7 tediously boring episodes.
I'm a fan of Anna Taylor Joy, and she did a fine job with the character, it's just the source material and lack of anything interesting happening that made this lackluster for me. Just not my thing. 4/10"
"10/10 🌟 It took me a while to actually watch, my friend had recommended it. It started with the end and then the story starting from the beginning leading to the end. It really helped with the suspense. Honestly, it is quite inspiring to watch someone come from a hard past to reach their dreams and goals. It was so heartfelt and beautiful! #romance #inspiring #chessprodigy #lgbtqiarep"
"This is so much more than a show about chess. This is a story about being an orphan, struggling to find/maintain friendships, battling addiction, and finding your own way. I will admit, it took until episode 2 for me to get into the show, but I had to binge the rest. I know absolutely nothing about chess, but I still really enjoyed the storyline and plot. It was hard to see a young girl lose everything and develop an addiction based on her upbringing. As she starts to form a close relationship with the janitor, she falls in love with the game of chess- quickly becoming the best. As she gets older, you watch her balance new relationships, deal with tremendous loss, and fall back into her patterns of addiction once again."
