Since their mother's death, Carter and Sadie have become near strangers. While Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London, her brother has traveled the world with their father, the brilliant Egyptologist, Dr. Julius Kane. One night, Dr. Kane brings the siblings together for a "research experiment" at the British Museum, where he hopes to set things right for his family. Instead, he unleashes the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him to oblivion and forces the children to flee for their lives. From the creator of the hit Percy Jackson series.

"This is the first book in the Kane Chronicles. This introduces us to the Egyptian gods. Imagine Percy Jackson but Egyptian. Though this book isn’t placed in Manhattan, though it is mentioned for a funny bit, the same teenager angst is still present. The main settings are London, Egypt, Arizona, and D.C. This book helps us to see the Egyptian gods, the main ones and the lesser gods. It’s important to note that this book has an entirely new set of characters but I quickly began to enjoy Sadie, Carter, and even the animals that protected them. Though they didn’t go to any “half blood camp” and receive a quest, they still are tasked with saving the world right after they find that the world is not what they’ve been told. The secret organization they find seems to want to kill them for decisions their mom and dad have made and for the secrets they have yet to discover. I think this book is a wonderful start to the series and if you have interest in mythology outside of the Greeks, it’s wonderful. It explains the history or Egypt and their traditions very well.it is interesting to learn the secrets of Egypt in a modern day setting as well as reminisce on the stories of Ancient Egypt. A big thing is that they believe that “time is replaying itself” and sometimes the outcomes change but sometimes they are stuck in a cycle. I think seeing how the Egyptian gods along with these cast of characters interact in the future books will be very interesting to uncover. So far I think this book is a good scene starter, but I hope the other books include more use of magic along with more fighting scenes/ action and more twists and turns. "
"Absolutely incredible book. The story starts off slow, but quickly picks up pace. It swaps most every chapter between brother and sister, Carter and Sadie. It is set in modern day with magic hidden from normal sight, partially due to being forgotten. Magic order is weakening and creatures of chaos see an opportunity.
Both characters feel like real kids with their own troubled upbringing and growth throughout the book. There is something so endearing about the growth of their sibling bond throughout, and they balance each other excellently.

"Ok here I goI thought this book was great but to be completely honest I was more in it for the characters I thought they were great characters that learned from there mistakes and fixed them I think the brother sister duo was properly executed were it wasn’t to cheesy I mean obviously there’s gonna be some parts were it is but what do you expect from a 12 and 15 year old brother and sister who just saved the world kinda…..Bast,Zia and Khufu were also great characters I was so happy at the end whe"
"The way the story was being told was really interesting. It’s a trilogy so it’s not too long and not too short. The characters from what I remember were likable. It’s written by the same guy that wrote Percy Jackson so the magical world setting and rules are pretty good and solid just a fun read really "
