"Note: This review is spoiler free, but I would advise that you go into this movie as fresh as possible. The less you know beforehand, the better. I do consider it an overlooked gem. The movie posters and advertising don't do it justice and it has all but been lost to obscurity in a relatively short time, but I think it is great and deserves to be rediscovered. + Never Let Me Go isn't just heartbreaking, isn't just sweet, but also surprisingly shocking in a way not many movies are. The more it is described, the more the effect of its plot is spoiled for first time audiences. I can say it is a beautiful character study, a deep portrayal of unrequited love, and a moving portrait of people who meditate and ruminate on who they are and what their place in the world is. It features compassionate performances by actors Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield, Keira Knightly, among many others (Sally Hawkins having a brief, but powerful role), near flawless direction, a great script, an understated, yet detailed production design, and a tragically beautiful score. To delve into its nuances in a review is to give away too much. If this is the only review you read here, read no others for the time being. See this movie, then read what others have to say. Go into it as fresh as possible. - Though I do love the melodramatic score, it sometimes plays in places where it isn't needed. Personally, this is becoming more common when I watch movies these days. Music queuing you into what the character is feeling or what you should be feeling sometimes feels like a laugh-track in an old sitcom. The actors do such a good job here that it is rarely necessary. It doesn't come close to making this movie less good, just less refined. Small quibble for an unsung contemporary classic. P.S.: This movie is not depressing, but sad and moving. When a narrative tackles melancholy skillfully the result is deep appreciation. When someone makes the same movie to get your money, that is depressing."

"I loved how the movie evolved beautifully like from a seed as children to a growing flower when they become adults. The details of the story followed exactly how everything turned out at the end. I felt like I was there and can feel Kathy’s world as a little girl caring about Tommy. This reminded me of my limited childhood growing up not knowing what I needed to do as a young adult. It portrays a painful emptiness of not knowing what the real world really is once they are adults. Andrew Garfields’s emotions was so intense. It’s beautifully done and makes you feel that we only live once and cherish our lives right now by watching this. Great story and three of them were great. 5 stars! "
