"4.25⭐️ Wow this movie caught me by surprise as to how good it is. A remarkably well directed, acted and contemplatively shot film! It’s not only a dog movie but a dog of war movie..so not a light watch. At the heart it’s about finding purpose and place and empathetic connection where you least expect it. Megan’s journey was one of finding herself, and in seeing herself in Rex they were able to help heal each other. As with any dog movie there is sadness but one with war as a backdrop is going to surpass that into tragic, tense and horrifying. I found myself welling up more than once, but through it all Megan Leavey’s truly dogged(!) determination makes sure we’re not left in a pit of despair after viewing. However I can’t help but keep thinking about the tremendous toll taken on all bomb sniffing dogs and what happens to them, not only the physical and emotional trauma of war, but their fate afterwards.
Thank you! @Carolyn1 for this recommendation for #womenshistorymonth

"Whenever I can’t find something new to watch I go to a specific genre or franchise. This week it’s dog movies. Watched this back to back with Dog, the one with Channing Tatum. Both were good. Leavy has a more serious tone and is based on a true story. Dog is fiction with some comedy thrown in. Both about military bomb sniffing canines. I’d rate them both about the same, pretty good. "
"I really liked this one. It looked rather interesting as a trailer in the theaters years ago but I finally watched it for the first time this week. I was surprised to see Tom Felton in this one. His American accent was wonderful and he seemed like a tough marine to command. I enjoyed seeing the actress Kate Mara (We are Marshall) perform as a tough marine. I thought all performances wonderful including the dog's performances. I enjoyed the home videos of Rex on the credits. "
