"This is a slow paced film, but beautifully framed. The director clearly has a love of intriguing camera angles, and music that is crafted for each scene, setting the mood for each act. Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung are brilliant actors whose subtleties evoke strong emotion equally for what is said as well as what is unsaid. (Maggie's wardrobe is spectacular!) Chinese audio."

"🎬MASTERPIECE🎬 The extensive use of slow motion and discontinuity editing arrest the sexual energy between Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung, so that everything unfolds in the past tense. The love affair and the world that contains it is an advanced state of erotic decay. The movie swoons over a kingdom of spirits. Wong Kar Wai captures a world characterized by a sense of formality and moral rigidity that is attractive only because it is deeply dead. Despair suffuses this film; the rituals it eulogizes constrain the possibilities of desire. It's only as a phantom flickering out of living memory that it becomes beautiful."

"This stylish movie is set in the early 1960’s in Hong Kong and Singapore. Life in these urban centers is fascinating. This movie focuses on daily activities of the working class- as two married neighbors navigate their attraction to each other, their loneliness as their spouses are often away on business trips and the prospect that their spouses are having an affair. This results in a friendship due to their shared circumstances and proximity. They hide the friendship which is not seemly but can’t resist their common concerns. "

"Masterful elegy to love unflourished. Cinematography and color grading brilliantly becomes part of the fabric of the story."

"i’m not usually into romance movies, but this was just so well done i was drawn in before i even realized. beautiful shots, beautiful composition. even the angles and types of shots chosen felt completely purposeful. definitely a bit of a slower paced movie but it’s worth it i promise, it’s a classic for a reason! "Beautiful film. A tragic romance that happens to center a lot of its story around food, loneliness, and the appetite for requited love. Personally loved the recycled yet stunning costumes. "

"A beautiful use of color an awe-inspiring close up shots to create such an amazing love story proves this to be one of the best romance films ever made. It's almost close to being my favorite romance of all time."

"The use of framing and costume design are understated in this movie, but it ties the film together. Better than most before of after it, it communicates story through action rather than dialogue. It's one of the best romance stories in film history."
