Josh Yates-WalkerWhether you'll like this, or not depends on how much slice of life stories grab you. While, there is an extreme setting, it's mostly about the banality of evil, at least by one family member. However, once it establishes this (quite early, in my opinion). It doesn't go anywhere other than the aforementioned slice of life drama. This is not necessary a dig on the film, but more a commentary on the limitations of historical drama. It gets points for not being sensationalist, though. And it got me interested in the Höss family.
Josh Yates-WalkerReally good drama that is part courtroom. It is sure to stir up debate after.
Josh Yates-WalkerThe film adaptation of this book was one of my favourites (same title). I didn't think this book could top it. But it did. While the adaptation was masterful, this book kind of renders it as a sketch. There is some much more world building in this book. It really shows up the limitation of the moving picture. This isn't to say where the movie diverged from the book it was was without good reason. But, it was, on the whole, a more simple story, both in terms of what wasn't covered and what was.
Josh Yates-WalkerAn enjoyable although shallow romp through Victorian England. With the title character giving Dead pool a run for his money in 4th wall breaking. A case could be made for its over use. They did Mycroft dirty, though.
Josh Yates-WalkerIs it me, or is this story a bit of a cutting satire of it's time? Although maybe not as overt. It's quite clever at insinuating it critique of society without polemics.
Josh Yates-WalkerA compelling, if at times chilling companion to the film Oppenheimer.
Josh Yates-WalkerLike Oppenheimer himself this movie does not fall neatly into any camp. It's not a documentary but it has factual bits in it. The movie wants to take a look at the mind that lead the allies' efforts to build the bomb, however this is undermined by taking flights of fantasy so you never know what is the man versus what is manufactured. I never knew what was objective fact as opposed to polemic. Ultimately, I fear this film fails in it prime objective after watching it, I was no closer to understanding the man. He remained an enigma.
