KamThis book was fantastic! I loved the themes of feminism and wlw rep in this novel. I highly recommend it to anyone who is at all interested in reading a sapphic historical fiction. I will say, this book does contain dark themes, so check your trigger warnings.

KamThe first 2/3rds of this book were engaging; however, the last 3rd, though thought-provoking, was not as fascinating or eventful as the first two parts. Overall, the story was interesting, but it was not for me. I’m sure there is a specific audience for this book and who would enjoy it. I appreciate it for what it is, a dystopian story.

KamI absolutely understand the hype around this book. Objectively, this book was well-written and interesting. Personally, it was not for me. I read this for one of my college courses and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Emily Brontë’s poems or enjoys ant of Charlotte Brontë’s literary works.

KamI only gave this book 5 stars because I couldn’t give it 1000. A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara has changed my life and the way I view characterization. Through her fantastic writing style, the author makes you fall in love with these characters and become invested in their friendship. This book is by far one of the most beautifully written pieces of literature I have read in the last five years. I have not stopped thinking about Jude St. Francis since I finished this book, and I don’t think I’ll ever stop thinking about him. I see him in everything I do. This novel is a tragedy that depicts the beauty of friendship and the effects of trauma on a person’s life and relationships. I’d recommend this book a thousand times over; however, only read it when you are in the right headspace. The subject matter within this novel is graphic, upsetting, and profoundly heartbreaking. So, while I do recommend this book, please look after yourself and read it’s trigger warnings. Know what you can handle, it’s okay to sit this one out if you must. This novel moved me in a way few books have. By the end, I had cried more times than I could count. A Little Life knocked the emotional wind out of me.

KamThe content of this story was gruesome and disturbing, but was ultimately well-described and used to convey its message well. I’d recommend this book, but make sure you read your trigger warnings.
