"If you're willing to dedicate yourself to this show, it does get better by the 3rd season. The first couple of seasons aren't bad they are just mediocre. This show starts off with an extremely predictable plot and then gets better as it progresses. The saving grace of BSD has always been its characters. Each character eminates so much heart and likeability that you forget about how basic of a plot it has. It doesn't matter how hard you try to put this show down. You can't. You find yourself obsessing over the characters. The best part is that once you get to the 3rd season, the plot catches up to the quality of its characters. 7.75/10"

"I started this and finished this series within a two week period. All four seasons, the OVA, and the Dead Apple movie. I loved every second of it. This is probably one of the best things I've seen in a long time. Now it's rated as it is for a reason, violence is a common element, there's significant references to suicide, and there's a particularly skeevy side character in it as it goes on. But if you can see past those things you will also find deep characters, gorgeous art, and a clever literature based hook that has made me a very happy viewer."
