Her world is stable, pleasant, and hard-fought. Until a hostile takeover and its offensively attractive front man threatens to bring it all crumbling down. Eli Killgore and his business partners want Kline, period. Eli has his own reasons for pushing this deal through—and he’s a man who gets what he wants. With one burning exception: Rue. The woman he can’t stop thinking about. The woman who's off-limits to him. Torn between loyalty and an undeniable attraction, Rue and Eli throw caution out the lab and the boardroom windows. "4.5⭐
I enjoyed this book sooooo much! The only real reason it's not five stars for me is because I couldn't quite get on board with switching between first person pov and third person pov. That being said, I LOVED getting to have Eli's POV!!! This is definitely much spicier than Ali's past books, but it was well done, and I loved every second of it! Rue wasn't quite what I was expecting, she's very different from Ali's past FMCs, but I loved her all the same! Eli was also way less broody than the MMCs Ali usually writes. It was, in my opinion, a fun change! Forbidden romance, enemies with benefits, he falls first, a bit of found family, and dual POV! This book does touch on some sensitive topics, so I would recommend checking the trigger warnings. 10/10 would recommend!"
"As Ali warns, this book is definitely tonally different from her previous books. However, it’s still an equally addicting read and difficult to put down. It is one of my least favorite books from her, but I think it’s because Rue is not the FMC I thought she would be. Also, I’m just not a fan of switching between first person pov and third person pov."
"I love Ali Hazelwoods writing and this was a good read for me but of all her books I don't think it'll be at the top. The switch from Rue’s pov in first person to Eli’s in theird was different than what I'm used to. It threw me off a couple times. Eli was a man obsessed! There were some fun side characters and the plot was interesting and moved quickly. I just didn't connect with this love story as much as some of her other romances. There is definitely more spice in this than her other books but based on the way this book was presented I thought there would be more. It was still a bit of a slower burn 3/5 spice level. If you like Ali Hazelwood I would definitely recommend reading it! "
"I knew I could count on Ali to get me out of a book funk. As she has stated, this one strays a little from her other stories and is much more spicy. I appreciate that any miscommunication between her characters is handled extremely quickly and well, minimizing reader frustration. While it’s my least favorite of hers personally, I still read it in one day and wished it were longer. "
"Despite the fact that I am a very big fan of the author, this book was certainly not my favorite. It's on me, perhaps: I didn't google the contents beforehand, buying it the second I saw it in the store. I'm fine with most triggers the author mentioned, but I absolutely despise sex-centered plots. While I truly enjoyed the narrative, the characters' struggle, their troubled past&traumas and the connection between them, their sexcapades took what feels like half of the book, and it's disappointing. Besides, I really don't believe in guys catching feelings after a night of no-strings-attached sex. Overall, this book was certainly not my thing."
"oh gosh I loved this! very spicy, heartfelt and science-y as always! ali did warn us that this one was a bit more serious than usual which was true and so so well done! I feel like rue and eli were such developed characters - I loved their honesty and their openness with each other. there were so many heart achingly sweet moments! all in all just SO good - perhaps my favourite of ali’s!
