"Oooooh! This book is so good! It’s like Night Circus and a dash of Harry Potter and one other book I can’t quite think of. A magical hotel that moves every night and guests pay to stay but lose their memory of the place once they leave. But-the people that work there also sign contracts that allow them to stay there even though it means they lose memories of who they were outside of the hotel. This is a book that I hope becomes a movie! "
"Didn't finish it.
I read half of the book and just couldn't do it anymore. The writing was young adult which makes sense because it is a young adult novel I just forget how much I hate that kind of writing. The characters were fine overall it just felt like nothing was happening halfway through the book like ok I get it the hotel is magic. Also hated the male (romantic?) lead cuz he was so boring and kind of one dimensional. Also the fmc was annoying like she kept getting into trouble that she should have gotten fired for and everyone kind of ignores it because the book would end if she got fired from the hotel but it was aggravating. Also the mystery element was not done well in my opinion. I understand why people would like this book it was just not for me. "
"A very quick read that’s similar to the Caraval series. In some areas the same magic was used throughout the story, which was a little boring. But overall it was extremely vivid and a fun read. This book would work great for getting out of a reading slump! Low stress and good vibes, I would recommend this to readers who enjoy fast paced, whimsical reads with a little bit of romance! "
"This is a very interesting story! I think it gives AHS vibes, not nearly as evil or gory but the world ends up being very different on the inside than what is expected before you walk through the door. The storyline that was created here with all of the characters really helped to push the story along. You never knew who you could trust, if anyone. Jani was a very annoying character to me, she made very selfish decisions and not in a way that I felt really progressed the story. Though Jani, the doorman, and the owner of the hotel were the main characters mostly, the supporting characters also provided a lot to the story. I don’t feel like their personalities were lacking in the story telling.
For this book to include the constant travel of the hotel, the real storyline exists within the hotel. The secrets take place in the hotel and the characters only are out of the hotel maybe 20% of the book. The set up for the book was pretty long and all of the action and secrets revealed itself in the last half of the book. The overall story was great, I wish there was more actual magic presented in the book though. The shtory could’ve been more elaborate and expansive but for the size of the book, the book did enough to hold my attention and made me want to see the ending.
If you like a book with magic, the idea of “how to escape”, mystery, and the slight paranormal, this book is great for you. I think it gave the feel of mystical without pulling at the “high-fantasy”. This would be a nice reset book for anyone in a slump too. "
"Loved this book. There is magic, mystery, sister love, romance. But over all such an interesting concept!"
