"This has always been a movie that has stuck with me ever since I watched it as a kid. I know it's not the best movie, but it's reasonably well made and it occasionally looks beautiful. The house itself is very ostentatious, and works as a perfect background for what are admittedly generic characters; aside from Eleanor who really seems to love and enjoy the company of the ghosts. I've always loved that idea. "

"Very boring. Started off okay as well which makes it a lot worse. I was genuinely surprised to find out that the main actress has had steady work after this. Her acting was atrocious and made the film a lot lot worse. I don’t think Jamie Lee was concerned about her scream Queen title after this came out. Owen and Catherine saved it a little but not enough in my opinion. "

"A hilariously terrible movie that takes the chilling, unnerving original and turns it into a cartoon, with two-dimensional, stereotypical characters, awful effects that make the 1995 Casper look like Jurassic Park, and an unintentionally hilarious OTT ending that ruins any ambiguity and turns the whole thing into a glorified funhouse. The fact this is the only horror movie to ever star Owen Wilson should tell you they had no intention of taking this seriously. "
"What a wretched remake. My friend and I went to see it and we couldn’t help but laugh at the terrible dialog and awkward acting. It’s supposed to be scary and it just wasn’t. Both the book and original adaptation rely on suspense and atmosphere and let the imaginings of the reader/viewer do the work for them. This uses CGI that just never manages to be as scary as if it were unseen. "
