"4⭐️ rewatch. If it wasn’t for the exhaustive twisty-ness at the end this disturbing thriller could be based on something Stephen king might’ve written. It’s not..but IS inspired by true events. Yikes😳 ‼️
Directed by the sorely missed Bill Paxton and featuring Matthew McConaughey in his darkest role pre True Detective, it may be a little cheesy at first but turns ominous and chilling soon enough…and then just gets more and more f***ed up as it goes. All I kept thinking was worst childhood ever.
Despite Bill and Matthew this movie was never well known. I think it might’ve been a bit too disconcerting and strange for the time but anyone into dark thrillers that are obscure and creepily unsettling should have this in their list 🪓🪓🪓

"Really good horror/thriller cinema right here and it’s a shame Bill Paxton didn’t make more horror because the man really knew what he was doing."

"This one was unfortunately slow and boring. A psychological thriller of the religious righteousness variety. The twists were predictable and the action was lacking. I don't think it was even worth the watch just to see McConaughey... although his narration was nice to listen to. And you do get a baby Jeremy Sumpter which was pretty cute. "

"It was tense! Just watching all the killing and brainwashing that went on with the movie. And it ends leaving you questioning if everything was a delusion or not?
I love movies that have more of a definite ending, but still leave it open for you to fill in the blanks. Definitely a must watch."
