"Imagine Henry Cavill crossed with the Creature from the Black Lagoon, who has an aversion to sodium and brackish water and an aggro sense of entitlement to forced breeding, you would get the villain in this film. Then add the tired trope that he goes after the “blossoming into womanhood” daughter who becomes pitted against a mother ashamed of aging who becomes abusive when the daughter tries to warn the mom of the creature’s predatory nature and you get this crap…written and directed by a man using women’s subjugation as a plot device. The scenes this male writer came up with to convey the bad of the villain are fetishistic violence against women. Not only offensive but unoriginal."
