Jonathan David WhitfieldI love this show! It’s consistent across all three seasons. The characters are fun and dynamic, story is well thought out, stakes are believable, and the tongue in cheek humor fits well within this world. If you’re looking for something funny, D&D-esque, filled with blatant sexual innuendos, and with a tinge of drama. THIS IS IT! YOU FOUND IT! ENJOY!
Jonathan David WhitfieldComplex. Brilliant? Frustrating. A journey into madness or decent into self? Believe it or not, the music didn’t bother me - the melodies were pleasant to the ear. If you are expecting a “sequel”to JOKER, then you may be disappointed. Todd Phillips had something else in mind. Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix were phenomenal, and for those two reasons, this movie is worth the watch. If you willing to keep an open mind about it being a musical, which makes sense in the context of the story, then you are in for quite a ride. Even so, after watching, I’m left feeling… nothing… but maybe that was the point. If you are sick of the same old same old, Joker: Folie à Deux, breaks the mold for better or worse. Enjoy!
Jonathan David WhitfieldTerminator Zero was true to the overall Terminator vibe - very freighting, suspenseful, with great art direction. Nonetheless, there were still some very frustrating moments that made me want to punch to screen. There were some great characters and some that left a lot to be desired. It was still a good watch though - I don’t believe this will appeal to your typical anime watcher, but if you like terminator lore, don’t mind subtitles, like action, don’t mind gore, and want to see something well drawn/animated, you’ve found it!
Jonathan David WhitfieldIt’s a shame they won’t be making a second season. However, I do understand why. This story found its self in a strange pocket of detailed character development paired with clunky contradictions. Overall I enjoyed it and was interested in where they may take the story for season 2. Nonetheless, while watching I was thrown off numerous times, as the writers kept taking risk after risk! Unfortunately, my opinion is they couldn’t quite write themselves out of the wholes they kept digging. This story is particularly dark, which in truth, caused me more frustration - rather than pull me in. There were some great moments and great relationships, and there were lots of things to like… but the opposite is also true. If you are a Star Wars fan, or interested in the lore of this universe, Acolyte is a must watch. But, if you find yourself only interested in the big budget films or the Mandalorian, this may not be for you.
Jonathan David WhitfieldWow! This movie was hilarious! What a creative mix of emotions. Hugh Jackman brought us an extremely thoughtful and vulnerable performance; and Ryan Reynolds amplified it with a type of comedy that seems only he can pull off. This movie was amazing and I left inspired and filled with joy. It’s why we go to the movies!
Jonathan David WhitfieldThis movie is a blast! The story is about THE MONSTERS, and the humans play a supporting role. It’s wasn’t a convoluted mess of plots, it was focused on King Kong’s character development and Godzilla’s lore and power. Brilliantly fun stuff. If you’re looking for something really cool and entertaining to watch - this is it!
Jonathan David WhitfieldWhat an awesomely modern take on a throwback version of Godzilla. He’s back and he is not a good guy! This movie has great character development and a layered story partnered with the looming threat of impending doom. Godzilla has a classic look with an advanced cape of special effects, and I was convinced of his godlike power. It feels a bit long, but that’s ok! Invest the time, grab some snacks, and enjoy the movie!
Jonathan David WhitfieldThis is the best season since season 1! Jodi Foster was brilliantly distant. True to the True Detective series, Night Country is laced with layers of sadness. However, it wasn’t hard to watch - the story pulls you out of the dark places it plunges you into seamlessly. I couldn’t stop watching! Kali Reis brought a humanity to the story that helped get us through, and Finn Bennett brought a tangibility that is hard to come by in shows like this one. This was a great season! For anyone who likes gritty and painful stories highlighted with wonder in all forms, this is for you!
Jonathan David WhitfieldOne of the best movies I’ve seen in the past 10 years. I was thoroughly captivated from start to finish! It had everything the last trilogy of Star Wars was missing. Depth, the fantastical stakes felt real, and beautiful relationship and character development across the board. You need to watch the first one to truly understand what’s happening, as the story is complicated with many layers. Dune 2 also does a great job of highlighting the first installment as a brilliant set up, not all sequels get that right. All movie goers should see this, and if you like sci-fi you can’t miss it either! Enjoy!
Jonathan David WhitfieldIf you are looking for something fun, with high stakes, but not too stressful - this is it! They rush through the origin, but it slows down and focuses when Mardenborough really starts racing. This a great popcorn flick with some emotional scenes from Archie Madekwe and David Harbour. The directing for the races is done very well, if you’re a racing fan - you can’t miss it! Enjoy!
