"I finished this book yesterday (September 13th 2024) and I won’t lie, I wasn’t expecting the movie to have been so closely tied to the books; but once again the directors did a pretty good job staying within the authors ideas and storyline.
It’s a very easy read as it’s captivating in the way Katniss’ monologues can be. It really tied everything together for me; and made me genuinely excited to read the newest book The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
I’m absolutely obsessed with this authors way of viewing the government and how we as a society have a possibility to go through the same things; because in reality we do go through something similar. We still have to provide, work double as hard as people who did not even a hundred years ago just to make a living. There’s much propaganda; the government shoving products in our face left and right; and the constant fight over who will rule the country properly. It never ends. Just like The Hunger Games. "
"What an ending to the series. This book is extremely dark in comparison to the others, but thematically, it works. The tone is consistent with a story about rebellion, war, torture, and trauma. I found it hauntingly interesting, couldn't keep my eyes off of it, and the authors' increased use of complex metaphors was really brutal but wonderful to me. I will say that some scenes felt really long or really rushed- but I think that the author does this on purpose, to exemplify how time feels to Katniss, as she did with her other books. Overall, really touching, filled to the brim with "oh my god" moments, this book is a painfully, enjoyably, hauntingly good ride. Note: be prepared for less Peeta, less action in the books 1st half, and a speedy but shocking and satisfactory ending."
"Mockingjay is slow starting like Catching Fire but once it heats up (pun intended) it is as page turning as the other two novels in the series. People pretend this book is a downgrade from the other two but I'm afraid I have to disagree; I think you get to know Katniss intimately even if she's a questionable person and she should pick a dude to love faster because she's so deep you can't help but enjoy it. She annoyed me at times, but it all fit her, this was a character-driven series, and I can't stop complimenting that. I also forgot a lot about this one, so it felt a lot newer than the other two did especially the first one. Katniss goes crazy in this one, and it's perfectly done.
Because the start was slower it can't be a perfect five, but this is by no means a flop.
There are more than a dozen reasons this series is the second most famous series of all time.
- Who are you a pawn to? Is it always a bad thing to be used?
- How much could you withstand while staying sane?
- What are the best safeguards a society can implement to stop a government like this from forming?"
