At the end of the school year, Kendra and her brother Seth find themselves racing back to Fablehaven, a refuge for mythical and magical creatures. Grandpa Sorenson, the caretaker, invites three specialists -- a potion master, a magical relics collector, and a mystical creature trapper -- to help protect the property from the Society of the Evening Star, an ancient organization determined to infiltrate the preserve and steal a hidden artifact of great power. Time is running out. The Evening Star is storming the gates. If the artifact falls into the wrong hands, it could mean the downfall of other preserves and possibly the world. Will Kendra learn to use her fairy gifts in time? Will Seth stay out of trouble?

"When I picked this up I was looking for quick and light read. I had read the first one a long time ago and enjoyed it and so I thought it would be nice to continue the series. Brandon Mull is a fabulous writer. He managed to keep the writing light yet interesting. There was no dull moment in the book, it gripped you from the beginning and kept you captivated even after you are done. The thing that I loved the most about this book was the reading guide at the end. The series of questions that really make you self reflect on what you would do. Granted this is a children's book however the questions and the lessons imparted are not juvenile. As adults we are, well I am at least guilty of not acting or using my best judgement all the time in situations as we are supposed to do. Hence those questions for me were a new way to self reflect and learn. I don't yet have kids of my own but in the future when I do I will revisit these books with them when they are old enough. I would recommend this to whomever is looking for a fun, light read and a good book to read with your children."
