An instant New York Time bestseller! Carry On meets Arthurian legend in this subversive, “delightfully original and whimsical” (Kirkus Reviews) young adult fantasy about what happens after the chosen one wins the kingdom and has to get married to keep it…and to stay alive.Arek hadn’t thought much about what would happen after he completed the prophecy that said he was destined to save the Kingdom of Ere from its evil ruler. So now that he’s finally managed to (somewhat clumsily) behead the evil king (turns out magical swords yanked from bogs don’t come pre-sharpened), he and his rag-tag group of quest companions are at a bit of a loss for what to do next. As a temporary safeguard, Arek’s best friend and mage, Matt, convinces him to assume the throne until the true heir can be rescued from her tower. Except that she’s dead. Now Arek is stuck as king, a role that comes with a magical catch: choose a spouse by your eighteenth birthday, or wither away into nothing. With his eighteenth birthday only three months away, and only Matt in on the secret, Arek embarks on a desperate bid to find a spouse to save his life—starting with his quest companions. But his attempts at wooing his friends go painfully and hilariously wrong…until he discovers that love might have been in front of him all along.

"This is like the first book that I'm actually going to comment on, but I just gotta rant (no spoilers ofc). I was super excited to read this, and it was really good at first, but then the characters were too dense, the tropes were too predictable, and the whole plot in general I was able to predict after the first 10 chapters at most. I'm quite dissatisfied if I'm completely honest. I wouldn't recommend it to most people, maybe just recommend to people who are as dense as the characters were. A book isn't enjoyable when you can predict the whole plot."

"I had read ‘In Deeper Waters’ by Lukens and I really enjoyed their writing style so I figured, “Why not buy all their books?”. Personally, I’m not really a fan of the ‘friends to lovers’ trope (I’m more of an enemies to lovers😉), but I still found this book so wholesome! When I read romance, the story doesn’t typically make room to delve into side characters, but that was NOT this book. Each character was fleshed out and had a distinct purpose and personality. I felt like I got to know each one individually, which I really liked. One thing I noticed was that almost every character was a member of the LGBTQ+ community which is great but unusual. You typically don’t see that in everyday life (but this is a LGBTQ+ fantasy book so it’s to be expected😂).
All in all, a solid read that I enjoyed but will stick with my enemies to lovers lol. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a wholesome, comedic DnD moment✌️"

"I actually enjoyed this book. It’s pretty funny and makes fun of tropes while showing us what happens AFTER the quest. I do wish we saw a bit more of the two guys when they finally got together, but still a very recommendable book. "

"The characters that make up the band of adventures are delightfully amusing. Matt and Arek are adorable together. I am also a huge fan of the rogue and the murder bird. "

"I’m gonna be honest and say I was disappointed reading this. The concept and premise was really intriguing and I was so excited to read it! But I felt like there could’ve been more at stake with Arek telling his crush how he felt, not just ‘knowing’ that they didn’t like him back.
Considering his reasoning for not telling his crush how he felt, his actions in trying to pursue his friends - who also showed no signs of attraction towards him - was stupid.
But the banter was good and I have to admit that Arek’s relationship with Matt was appealing in some aspects."

"3.75 stars - So This is Ever After gives a hilarious middle finger to tradition and all it entails. The best way to describe this book is an LGBTQ spin on The Bachelor + a modern retelling of King Arthur set in medieval times (which I realize is contradictory but it’s true)."
