"This is a decent sci-fi adventure with a good cast. The story involves a crew who encounters a strange phenomenon on Mars. I enjoyed the space drama and the CGI effects, but the last act of the film fell flat for me. It seemed a bit uneven and a little strange in comparison to all of the events that led up to the final reveal. Oh well. At least the plot was intelligent until that point. Decide for yourself."
"A cool premise with a very strange direction change halfway through that derails the whole film."

"3½/5⭐
+/- For all of this movie's shortcomings, from the clunky info-dump dialogue that creeps its way in to give us backstory, to the Nolan-esque exposition to educate us on certain scientific jargon, there was also a deep love that went into its making. Brian De Palma has a knack for elevating material that wouldn't work otherwise. He's skilled at staging suspense, utilizing special effects so that it works for the narrative, and weaving the sound-mix and score to create tone and atmosphere. The soundtrack by Ennio Morricone adds to the colorful human element of deep space travel while also bringing a sense of unease that comes with the setting. If not for the weak script I might openly recommend it to everyone, but as it is, you should know this is a guilty pleasure (another way of saying that I concede that it isn't for everyone). There is a lot of potential for character development and exploration of their psyches, but it never really rises above Hollywood melodrama, and (shallow) nonsensical ideas of why these characters do what they do, including the aliens in the movie. Still, this is one of those movies that I have a lot of affection for, and when you come across a movie like that, justifying why you like it is pointless. A so-called guilty pleasure like this shows how limited a rating system can be when your joy is subjective despite every flaw sticking out like a sore thumb. I hope you share my love for this movie because there is a lot to appreciate here.
NOTE: This is rated 4/5⭐ so that it is listed as a movie that I liked, but it's hard to make an argument for such a high score overall. An example of using ratings in context as opposed to having it represent an overall value. Some movies just don't fit into a rating system."
"Wild, I laughed so bad at the alien lady and when I really took a look at the qualities when in that face ship thing. I really loved the concept of this movie tho 👍🏼👍🏼 I watched this while doing school work so I might have not gotten all of it but it was a great movie
Edit: I forgot to add, but the background music in this feels like it should be in a Back to the Future movie 😭"
