"This is a wonderful story inside of a journey...of the heart and soul. The lead character grows emotionally and intellectually in the course of the adventure. This film is a perfect mix of time-bending and fantasy. "

"Great movie. The storyline, imagery and characters are amazing. This movie has just the right amount of weird and in the best way. I really enjoyed it. "

"One of the closest films to tolerable Burton’s made in years. Unfortunately, combined with his statements on race and the notable casting of Samuel l Jackson as the cannibalistic mr Barron, the first black person to ever physically appear in burton’s films (the misuse of Harry belafonte’s protest music doesn’t count) it can make my teeth grind at how friggin’ white this production is. "Miss Peregrine’s had visually compelling, impressive cinematography, specifically in the special effects, and its certain quirky, gothic charm.
I appreciated the overarching themes of celebrating peculiarities, learning to be unapologetically ourselves, and accepting of others. I believe, at most of our cores, we are all complex and have something valuable and special to offer.
As always, I also appreciated Burton's unparalleled imagination and innovation. It helped carry and direct the parts where I lost the plot, which was mostly toward the end. (Read: I was hysterically laughing by the time the skeletons were fighting with the monsters!)
Three other aspects I liked were the use of lighting to reflect different time periods and moods, the exploration of time and mortality/immortality, and the relationship between Emma and Jake to warm some of the more grotesque elements, and bring back some humanness to the story. Since, while, this is fantasy, it is still important to strike a balance between that realm and the intentions of the story itself.
Overall, well acted and crafted, but tended to wander a bit...I also found the peculiarities of projecting dreams, controlling air, and manipulating time to be the most intriguing and multi-faceted! "

"Interesting movie, Miss Peregrine is almost like a Mary Poppins, the Hollowghasts almost remind me of demigorgons or another monster I’ve seen that don’t have eyes."
