"Honestly, not as bad as I thought it was going to be, but really not good. Joey King was definitely the best actor of the bunch, along with the actress who played Shay. The rest of the performances were super wooden. The CGI was way over the top to the point where it hurt my eyes and the pretties simply looked like they had the Snapchat glamour filter on. As for the story, the pacing was super weird and it had a lot of plot holes. I’ve heard the book is good and I understand what they were going for. It’s mostly mediocre and almost so bad it’s good. I was entertained, but I was laughing a lot, which is not what the aim is for a dystopian film."

"Was not nearly as bad as I expected after hearing only negative reviews. I can understand why it wasn't for everyone but it was at least average. As someone who read the books (at least a decade ago) I kinda knew what to expect in plot, so I think I was able to enjoy it more than if I hadn't, because the movie felt kinda flat in terms of tension, so there may not have been as much anticipation otherwise. I expect the following movies to be better - assuming they continue the series - and while I lean closer to a 3 in rating, I decided to round up cause of all the negativity the film received. ~4/5🎢🛹"

"Only ever read the first book cuz my library didn’t have em all growing up but honestly seemed like a typical teeny movie . Effects are a little wonky but story wise mostly felt like the og book .(which of course being early 2000s is a little silly in plot) I just hope if it continues they work on the effects , and story pacing , etc . Id give this a 6ish/10 "

"Wow, I read this book in middle school. It was one of many dystopian novels that came out in the 2000s, all of which made me fall in love with the genre. I do feel they did it justice, with a few acceptable changes that minorly affect the plot. I just wish it got as much backing as Hunger Games did which went big screen. I really hope Netflix greenlights the next 3 movies so my teenage heart can be fulfilled. "

"Good movie with and even better message. It has a very divergent feel to it which I like. The only thing that left me disappointed was the ending. You are left with a massive cliffhanger and no promise of a second movie. Otherwise, I really enjoyed it and hope for a second one."
