"3.25⭐️ Quirky with a capital Q. It took all the way to end to get to what it was about. In the meantime I was just confused, maybe a little bored but still kinda intrigued to want to know what I was watching. Once it finally got there it was a worthy goal and held my interest but that was maybe the last 20-30 minutes. I don’t think I’ve ever really enjoyed a David O. Russell film except possibly I Heart Huckabees maybe. But that was the movie in which he verbally abused Lily Tomlin on set. Definitely a problematic guy. If I want quirky I’ll take Wes Anderson or Charlie Kaufman. "

"Clearly I watched a different film than everyone else - all the critics and general public who have eviscerated this movie to shreds - because I think Amsterdam is a rustic, meticulously crafted film highlighting the forgotten artistry found in masterful storytelling and is one of the best examples of what is missing in cinema today. From its rich history and colorful characters, to its hushed humor and well written screenplay, Amsterdam should be a destination we all aspire to visit. David O. Russell has proven time and time again that artistry is greater than frill, and Amsterdam is just the latest notch in his distinguished filmography. Amsterdam bolsters a subtle, sophisticated cinematography. It’s not loud, raucous, or immediately impressive, rather it’s a return to form; a vibrant and vintage ambiance captured perfectly in a quaint yet eccentric tone. The character development is this film's greatest achievement. Each character is given ample story and meaning, giving a sense of familiarity and attachment to our leads. Speaking of our leads…What a cast. Christian Bale - this man is dedicated to any role he is given, I truly can’t recall a film he doesn't excel in, Amsterdam included. Margot Robbie has moments of greatness flutter across Amsterdam, specifically in her mannerisms and ticks. John David Washington is a tale of two halves: the first, reigned in, almost passive; the second, expository, more alive and expressive. Robert De Niro is great, as expected. Lastly, I love Michael Shannon, dude is literally one of the best actors alive today. The rest of the stacked cast were all serviceable in role, some of them standing out more than others making this film one of the best cast and realized I’ve seen recently. Amsterdam is an eclectic, charismatic, and charming film reviving a piece of narrative driven cinema that we so desperately needed. Its robust and energetic performances add to its likable nature, delivering one of my favorite cinematic experiences of the year."

"Too convoluted plot, for what reason? Fascism and nazism are set up as the straw man versus kindness, veterans and the American military. And kittens, no sorry no kittens because that might be too much."

"Did not understand the awful reviews because I highly enjoyed this ! Great acting performances, quirky storytelling, and quite a good amount of heart ! 10/10 IMO . I totally get it if you just don’t like quirky films or even films that may lean more political but give it a shot! "

"I really did not like this movie. I watched it because of the star-studded cast, but it was terrible. I felt like the story-line was all over the place and the plot was confusing and/or nonexistent. Would not watch again. "

"It’s very amateur acting, which I’m guessing is what they were going for, but I didn’t like it. Lacklustre ending. "
