"This is a fantastic animated film. I was truly moved by all of the similes and metaphors for the pride of culture and the honor of the family tradition. All of the elements of air, fire, earth, and water are represented as beautiful animated worlds and characters. This film tells the story of a woman who tries to keep the flame of tradition afire, amidst exciting changes to her solitary life. The voice acting is very good, and the storyline is emotionally compelling. There are very sweet and funny moments which made me genuinely smile and laugh with satisfaction. This film will definitely be on my list to watch again."
"A great fantasy film for the family, set in a world where the elements are given form and personalities as a city much like in Zootopia has been built where the elements mix away from their homelands. The story comes much like Romeo and Juliet as the elements have never mixed, when Ember strives to find her place in the city with her father’s dream and her longing. Worth watching as she meets a a water element named Wade who taker her in a journey!"
"I'm usually a huge fan of anything done by Pixar, but I felt that they missed the mark on this one. The story wasn't the problem so much as the overall look of the characters. They didn't look complete to me. Almost as if they were still in the early stages of development. The texturing on the different elements were on point but that's about it.
The way that the different elements would interact with each other on a realistic level wasn't thought through. Cute for the kids though, I just don't think it has the appeal for a broader audience, like previous Pixar movies do. 4/10"
"A love story between Fire and Water literally. Interesting take on the mixing of segregated communities. Fantastic and fun animation in the portrayal of elements with human personalities. The anthropomorphic use of non-human elements allows some truth in our ultra pc times in representing “racial” relations without challenging specific groups."
