Without Jack’s steady supply of stolen tricks, the Enchantress’s fame would have burned out long ago.But when Jack’s thievery catches up to them, they’re forced to flee to America to find their fortune. Luckily, the Enchantress is able to arrange a set of sold-out shows at Seattle’s Alaska–Yukon–Pacific World’s Fair Exposition. She’s convinced they’re going to rich and famous until a new magician arrives on the scene. Performing tricks that defy the imagination, Laszlo’s show overshadows the Enchantress, leaving Jack no choice but to hunt for the secrets to his otherworldly illusions. But what Jack uncovers isn’t at all what he expected.Behind Laszlo’s tricks is Wilhelm—a boy that can seemingly perform real magic. Jack and Wilhelm have an instant connection, and as the rivalry between the Enchantress and Laszlo grows, so too does Jack and Wilhelm’s affection. "It's super good, and the twist and turn were surprising. A kinda lackluster ending as it was not what I wanted but all together good"

"This book gave me so many emotions, sometimes I feel that I don’t feel as sympathetic towards characters because I know it’ll all work out in the end, but this book had me at the edge of my seat rooting for the characters, finished it so quickly because I wanted to see the happy ending, loved the take on magic so simple but effective with wonderfully developed characters all around besides the main. Also haven’t disliked a certain character so strongly in a while."

"I like the overall vibe of this book, the setting, and the characters. However, certain themes like Wilhelm's situation disturbed me. Yes, of course, kidnapping is suppose to disturb you but some of the conversations between Wilhelm and Teddy made me feel so icky that it took me out of the story. Also, Wilhelm’s abilities were never explained and just kind of exist? Why was Wilhelm the only one who had magical powers? Why is he weak to iron specifically? It all seemed like the author just wrote this detail to make the story more interesting without taking consistency and world-building into account. The whole book I was waiting for Wilhelm’s powers to be explained or at least be able to meet his family so that they could explain it but that never happened. I also searched up whether there would be a sequel to no avail. I’m deeply confused. "

"Oh my god I loved this so much :)
It was super cool and I loved the magic/historical fiction stuff going on, it was great.
Honestly I loved every single character in this book except for Teddy and George (Evangeline wasn’t great either but she was slightly better than they were and she was interesting)
Jack and Wil are adorable and every time one of them was in danger I was so scared, this was really really good I really loved it :)

CWs: blood, physical abuse, torture, vomit, racism, misogyny, toxic relationship (parent/child relationship), kidnapping"
