"What a letdown from his previous books, which I loved. This was a classic Agatha Christie style mystery which has been done so many times. It was just meh. Have had this on hold at the library for months and was so excited to read it. So disappointed."

"3.5⭐️ very slow to start, easily figured out. I give it the extra half star for creativity. I did enjoy the last quarter of the story with minimal surprises, but there was one or two.

"I definitely liked his other stuff better. This one held my interest but when it just didn't hit like the other ones did "

"I think fans of The Silent Patient would enjoy this book but it’s not as good. It almost tries too hard with all the twists and I’m not even entirely sure of the ending. It was still entertaining and hard to put down at times. He’s great at keeping you on your toes."

"This was hard to get into and the first half drags. There is a lot going on and a bit of a wild goose chase. I do appreciate books being narrative by one of the characters but some things were a bit far fetched. There was some clever thinking that went into this. Also enjoyed being told this isn't a whodunnit but a whydunnit. In the end, I wasn't satisfied. "

"I really enjoyed the unique story telling by the main character Elliott. But the plot just never took off for me. The very end got interesting but it was slow to get there."

"The Fury is about a group of friends who go to a remote island in Greece. One of them doesn't make it back.
Characters include Lana, a beautiful movie star; Kate, her best friend, a stage star; Jason, Lana's boyfriend; Leo, Lana's not-quite adult son; Agathi, Lana's loyal housekeeper; Nikos, the caretaker of the island; and Elliot, a play write and friend of Lana's and Kate's.
Elliot is the narrator of the story. It is told in the first person. There were several scenes where I questioned his ability to report on what happened behind closed doors.
The story is told in scenes. The timeline isn't very linear. Elliot takes you back in time on several occasions. He also revisits different important scenes from a different perspective.
There were few likable characters.
There were several plot twists that were unexpected. I predicted the "murderer" early in the book but doubted myself several times.
I enjoyed The Fury for its unique way of telling a story. Elliot narrates as though he is telling you the story in a bar. He even tells you to get another drink at one point.
I recommend it for the beautiful setting and the unique storytelling.
Content warnings: language, blood, guns, gun violence, thoughts of suicide, abuse. There is no sex in this book."

"This was my January BOTM and a highly anticipated read for me because I absolutely love Michaelides as an author. The way Greek mythology and stories are woven into Michaelides’ work is spellbinding as is his writing style. There are so many allusions in this novel and I adored the depth they provided in this story. Our narrator, Chase Elliot, is completely unhinged as most of the characters in Michaelides’ stories are, but in this novel we get frequent pauses where Elliot actually addresses us directly as the reader. This gives the whole story an even more unreliable, unhinged quality. As I was nearing the last third of the novel, I immediately started getting Glass Onion vibes. The story opens saying this is a story about the death of love and I think that is accurate, but I would also suggest that this is a story of vengeance. "

"Kept my interest but it is not his best work. If you’re chasing the Silent Patient adrenaline, this isn’t it. That being said I liked the twists and turns and the narrator! "
