Knock at the Cabin - Likewise Movie Reviews

"I've been a fan of most of M. Night Shyamalan's work, so I was excited to see this one, even though I haven't read the book that it is based on. Overall, I really enjoyed it. Tense situations had me anxiously at the edge of my seat for most of the movie. But, without giving anything away, I'm not crazy about the ending. For a director that has built his career on the reputation of having twist endings, this one was pretty straight forward, so a little disappointing. Still, very well done and Dave Bautista shows some real acting chops for which I now have a newfound respect. I give it an 8.5/10."

"I really liked this. I stayed away because I thought it was just some average horror movie. It’s not. It’s a thriller/mystery. Had I know who the director was I’d have watched it earlier. Absolutely fantastic cast and terrific acting. A notable small part played by an almost unrecognizable Rupert Grint. Like all Shyamalan movies, it takes a min to figure out what is happening. If you’ve liked any of his other movies you’ll like this. "

"Wow. M. Night Shyamalan is really slacking. That was my least favorite movie of his I've seen so far. From a psychological standpoint it was interesting, but otherwise it wasn't very good. It was slow and the ending just sucked. "

"Oh my *god* this was wicked fun!!! If you like M. Night you are in for a treat. I promise you right now it’s good to go in with no knowledge. I wouldn’t say it’s necessary or anything, just more fun lol. With these sorts of films it’s hard to say anything without saying too much, but without a doubt it is worth a watch. Not a huge fan of the religious aspect if I'm being honest but it I'll overlook it. It's emotionally brutal, with nearly zero blood or gore. I want someone else to take this story and add that sh*t in tho "

"I expected a twist at the end and no sadly the movie was bland everything was dumb so don’t waste your time on this. "

"Dave Bautista great job bro. As a big M. Night Shyamalan fan I was somewhat disappointed in this film. I like the book ending much more then the film. Don’t quite understand why he decided to change it. The story went exactly how I expected it to go and for a Shyamalan film that’s not on brand. Between this and Old I haven’t gotten that mind blowing twist he’s usually known for."

"As Shyamalan movies go it’s not the worst, but it’s also not the best. It’s kind of meh, forgettable. "

"There’s no way this movie was made by a great director, made it to the movies and that I actually watched it. Sorry but this was a desperate attempt. "

"This Movie Was Excellently Done And I Myself Am A Huge Fan Of M Night (We Don't Talk About Old) Although, I am also a huge fan of the book so I definitely was expecting a way different ending and if you have read the book like me I think you would agree the book ending is far better and more impact full but this Movie was still really good follow the book closely and the acting was spectacular and I still give mega props to m night for this film version of the book and I can understand why he choose a different ending. I am saying this as general as I can because I dont want to give spoilers but definitely watch this!"

"Not a great movie. Not boring but I wouldn't recommend it. Not up to Shyamalan fans standards. Spoiler: no twist. What is going on?"

"Knowing nothing about the movie except it's directed by M. Night Shyamalan, I kinda knew it's a horror-ish title. It's pretty interesting plot and disturbing at times, something you would get with his films. Not his best film but watchable, ending is weird though."

"Okay enough for me to see it through to the end to find out how it all plays out, but I wasn't wowed by it overall. There were a few suspenseful scenes. Creativity issues imo and seemingly a simple story, not so complex. "

"Loved it. The book has been on my to read list. So haven’t read the book before I watched the movie. I know that the ending was changed. I really enjoyed this. Had me hooked the entire time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"

"I personally really liked this film. Granted there are structural issues with the script, but the acting, cinematography, and direction are top notch. Between this and OLD, I’m really impressed by M Night Shyamalan’s recent films despite their imperfections, not to mention the fact that his movies have his distinctive stamp on them (and not feel like a studio product which most movies do nowadays). Dave Bautista’s performance in particular stands out."
D B

"Definitely not a bad movie. Interesting exploration of humanity, morality, and faith. HOWEVER, there is a major flawed plot point that makes the whole movie not make a whole lot of sense. Also: Dave Bautista got lip fillers and it's totally weird to look at"

"I give this a 7/10, the trailers made me like this movie but they also made me dislike this movie. What I've seen in the trailer for this movie is pretty much what happens. There was unfortunately nothing else to it. Usually I'm not one to judge a movie because that's predictable but this one surely was way too predictable. The Cinematography was good, and the color grading was good. It's just that this movie was way too predictable for me to give it any higher then a 7/10. Even that may be higher than my review sounds but it was still entertaining to watch."

"The premise is very interesting, the delivery was as good as it could have been. It kept my focus enough for me to finish the film, but the plot as a whole was predictable. I wasn't shocked by anything said or done in this film and wasn't on the edge of my seat. I would say the vibe of this film is similar to "Leave the World Behind". A good watch if you enjoy apocalyptic thrillers, but the dialogue and moral implications of the film are largely the center of focus."

"i definitely consider this a physiological horror movie because you don't know what's real or not but i watched this with my family and we loved it (all over the age of 16 please don't watch this with kids lol) it didn't show the gore part pretty much at all which is fine with me 4/5 i would probably watch this again "

"Review - I wanna say this movie was good but I feel like could have been shorter in time I think it was dragged at the end and could have been more condensed . That’s honestly the only thing I have to say that’s negative other than that acting was great and the storyline was so realistic I loved it. The Apocalypse is scary and a horror so I would put this up there with horror movies genre . Rating -4/5"

"I have always enjoyed M. Night's work, and I really enjoyed that he went out of his usual element for this movie. For those that are watching this movie for a twist, you should read the book first. Unlike most of his movies such as 6th sense, The Village, and Old; that all have dramatic twists. This does not. However, could that have been the twist? I guess we'll never know 👀 The acting in this movie is pretty good, and there are definitely some good comedic elements here and there. Not too many to take away from what is going on, but enough to lighten the mood. Overall, this movie kept me intrigued from beginning to end and I would definitely watch it again. "

"M. Night does it again. Another bad movie. This film had no substance and the ending fizzled out. The ending seemed so pointless, why couldn't they explain more after they came into the house? The flashbacks didn't add anything to the storyline either. 😞 I really gotta stop watching his movies."

"I was so excited to see another Shoml movie. Sorry I can’t spell his name y’all know who I’m talking about 6th sense, the village director and fellow Philadelphia native. But this movie loses me early on I’m on my 3 attempt to watch it. I’m confused but hopefully this isn’t another “Lady in the water” sometimes geniuses get too creative "

"I haven’t been a fan of M. Night’s work as of lately but I actually ended up enjoying this movie. It centers on a gay family who’s vacation trip gets interrupted, although it did feel like watching an episode of ‘American horror stories’. Based on a novel, It’s an apocalyptic drama that begs the question if it’s worth sacrificing the one you love for a world you’re not even sure is worth saving? "

""Knock at the Cabin" adds another enigmatic puzzle piece to M. Night Shyamalan's collection, but truth be told, it's not my personal favorite from his treasure trove. This movie left me scratching my head so hard that I went on a full-fledged Google marathon to decode the hidden meanings behind the storyline. It’s like he’s the wizard of mind-bending plots, turning ordinary situations into mind-twisting puzzles. This movie’s no exception, weaving a web of intrigue that’ll keep you guessing until the final credits. While it might not have hit the bullseye for me, I can't deny Shyamalan's genius in crafting mind-bending tales that keep us all on the edge of our seats, googling furiously to untangle the mysteries he plants. "

"This is a tightly made thriller. Each actor was pitch perfect in their roles. I truly understood why that couple would have been chosen. Yes the families love was strong, but as with each of the messengers there was unique qualities making them perfect as representations of traits all humans should have. Fathers Eric and Andrew are strikingly different. Eric seems to follow his heart and chooses faith, love for all, and hope. Andrew is a realist following hard facts, closing his eyes faith, love for only his family, and finally has no hope of anything getting better. I know there are flaws in the film, but these are outweighed by the acting and storytelling. I give it ✊✊✊ 1/2 knocks."

"The Cabin at the End of The World is one of the best books I ever read - it's a terrifying and heartbreaking story.
M. Night Shyamalan cut out some of the most heart wrenching parts of the book when he made this adaptation. Disappointed but not exactly surprised.
Maybe I would have liked this if I didn't read the book.

"This is one of M. Night Shyamalan’s best. My partner and I read Trembly’s book this fall and loved it. M. Night Shyamalan was upfront that he changed the ending and I’ve got to say, it was near perfect. So well done and a minimum of violence, which proves again, you can create thrills without torture ****. "

"I went into this expecting it to be more entertaining. My least favorite bad horror movie trope is the one person who adamantly and loudly claims everything is fake and considering that was the character who may have had the most lines in this movie I was pretty annoyed. I liked the very last scene though. "

"It was good, but the ending just sort of happened. I knew odds were that was how it was going to end, but it was lacklust... The 4 main characters and the actors who played them were great. The other 3 were forgettable... sorry... I heard this was based on a book and the book had a better ending. I don't really understand M Night recently doing abdications of material that already exists when he used to write his own original stories... Honestly, the more movies I watched by him, the least interested I get in watching. Lol"

"The pros are Dave Bautiste, interesting directing style, and main characters with good survival instincts and some heart in their backstory. The characters overall, actually, were well designed. I also found the lack of outright gore to be far more effective then showing everything on screen.
The cons are a very predictable ending, a very predictable wondering what's real (and not being able to care as much as you'd want to in a movie that hinges on what's real and what's not), and a very predictable climax. (Spoiler) I think the worst part is a character getting *severely* concussed and his take on reality carrying way more weight than anyone with such a concussion should have.
The dialogue isn't strong, but I had low expectations there. After Avatar the Last Airbender and Old, I hadn't expected this to be genuinely good. And it's not. But I had hoped it'd at least be entertaining. It failed at that thanks to barreling towards an ending you suspected from the beginning.
Speaking of Old, at least there was an explanation for what happened. There was none here. Some folks like this kind of lack of answers and prefer things to be open to interpretation, granted, but I found it eyerollingly dull in this context. The whole point of the story is the family, the sacrifice they're being asked to make, a commentary maybe on humanity. But there was a far more interesting story that couldve been told but wasnt, condensed to a few details and a theory from a concussed man."

"Dont get me wrong. Its good, the plots great and the characters are really good at sticking to their “roles” in this. I just cant get with the ending.. still worth a watch, just not great. 4/10 aka 2/5"

"This was the best rendition of visual depiction of Armageddon through the 4 horseman. There's been a few movies trying to express visually what is read & the perceptions created in the mind from the Book of Revelations. But Knock at the Cabin, thus far, is the best visual of the perception of the four horsemen from the Book of Revelations."

"I had to wait seven months to see this movie. I was thrilled to see a gay couple represented and was anticipating seeing more action, but Mr. Shyamalan slacked off on this one; it was very dull and not entertaining at all. Lack of imagination made the concept of horsemen of the apocalypse who kill themselves and witness the repercussions of their demise on TV seem somewhat trite. I anticipated this film to focus more on home invasions and crazy people, but I never expected it to be so tedious. 4 Shyamalan movies are my favorites, but this one makes me sad 😔 "
