"WARNING⚠️ This show is chock full of #perverted, #twisted #freaks 😩 … This six-part #French series is a #sinister, #violent, somewhat #bloody, & sexually #explicit #psychological #thriller… It’s gotten good reviews from many, so this might be someone’s “jam,” but this show was definitely NOT FOR ME 👎🏾 The FIRST episode started out innocently enough & definitely INTRIGUED me, so I stayed with it, but as it went on, this show was: 😩 I watched the entire show, but, yeah, NO THANK YOU 👎🏾
If you’d like a detailed but spoiler-free PREMISE, read on….
🦋 ▪️BLACK BUTTERFLIES focuses on a married novelist named Adrien who’s stuck in a creative rut & agrees to ghostwrite the memoir of an elderly man named Albert who wants to write (tell) a story about his lifelong love, Solange, especially focusing on their relationship together a few particular summers in the 1970s when they’d vacation along the French Riviera. Albert’s telling of his story jumps back & forth in time as he admits to a long-ago #crime 🔪 🩸 #6episodes
🎬 ⚠️ Being a female, there was one particular #barbaric scene at the beginning of episode 2 that was particularly #troubling for me (not like I haven’t seen or heard any of this kind of stuff before, but ugh!)… Okay now, you’ve been sufficiently warned. Watch at your own mental health risk."
"This is definitely not for everyone but if you get past the initial shock of the ultraviolence that the first episode serves up, Black Butterflies has some great writing, lovely cinematography and stellar acting to help the subject matter along. Recommended if this particular type of crime drama is up your alley."
