The Well of Ascension
Books | Fiction / Fantasy / Epic
Now with over 10 million copies sold, The Mistborn Series has the thrills of a heist story, the twistiness of political intrigue, and the epic scale of a landmark fantasy saga. The impossible has been accomplished. The Lord Ruler -- the man who claimed to be god incarnate and brutally ruled the world for a thousand years -- has been vanquished. But Kelsier, the hero who masterminded that triumph, is dead too, and now the awesome task of building a new world has been left to his young protégé, Vin, the former street urchin who is now the most powerful Mistborn in the land, and to the idealistic young nobleman she loves. As Kelsier's protégé and slayer of the Lord Ruler she is now venerated by a budding new religion, a distinction that makes her intensely uncomfortable. Even more worrying, the mists have begun behaving strangely since the Lord Ruler died, and seem to harbor a strange vaporous entity that haunts her.Stopping assassins may keep Vin's Mistborn skills sharp, but it's the least of her problems. Luthadel, the largest city of the former empire, doesn't run itself, and Vin and the other members of Kelsier's crew, who lead the revolution, must learn a whole new set of practical and political skills to help. It certainly won't get easier with three armies – one of them composed of ferocious giants – now vying to conquer the city, and no sign of the Lord Ruler's hidden cache of atium, the rarest and most powerful allomantic metal. As the siege of Luthadel tightens, an ancient legend seems to offer a glimmer of hope. But even if it really exists, no one knows where to find the Well of Ascension or what manner of power it bestows.Other Tor books by Brandon SandersonThe CosmereThe Stormlight ArchiveThe Way of KingsWords of RadianceEdgedancer (Novella)Oathbringer The Mistborn trilogyMistborn: The Final EmpireThe Well of AscensionThe Hero of AgesMistborn: The Wax and Wayne seriesAlloy of LawShadows of SelfBands of MourningCollectionArcanum UnboundedOther Cosmere novelsElantrisWarbreakerThe Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians seriesAlcatraz vs. the Evil LibrariansThe Scrivener's BonesThe Knights of CrystalliaThe Shattered LensThe Dark TalentThe Rithmatist seriesThe RithmatistOther books by Brandon SandersonThe ReckonersSteelheartFirefightCalamityAt the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

"Just fantastic. The bulk of the book might feel a little boring for readers who don't care for politics or didn't care for the courtly scenes in the previous book. But there was so much character development and depth to everyone. I had to speed up my listening in the final third of the book because I could not handle the suspense!"
"☆☆☆ 3/5. Sequel to Mistborn. Same world/magic system. Out of nearly 800 pgs, the first 600 are the MCs staring over a wall at an impeding army. Sanderson squeezes in what action he could with Vin while his male characters shrugged shoulders at each other. Some suspension is sprinkled in as two more armies join the siege. Vin searches for answers on her own but is distracted as she backtracks her character dev from book 1: questioning her femininity and distrusting her friends 😕"
"The continuation of character grow and character relationships, I get so invested in who his character end up becoming."
"THIS ENDING WAS INSANE OH MY GOD.

the multiple perspectives really helped to build tension and made this pretty hefty book fly by. and the payoff of all the buildup was SO GOOD.

however.

the whole vin-elend-zane love triangle was so absolutely unnecessary. vin’s character exploration would have been so much more compelling without this whole weird romance subplot where she had to “choose between brothers”… like what in the name of the summer i turned pretty? the book was amazing but this whole deal was tedious and took like 500 pages to resolve."
