Allison Silipigniis looking for a Book
Request has ended
Hey everyone. I need book recommendations for my 35 y/o husband. Everything displayed in bookstores is geared towards booktok, ****, romance, women. Even the YA sections seem to blur the adult line. He enjoys High fantasy and horror and strong male leads/heros. But also we are just looking for good fiction books that other men also like to read. Any suggestions would be amazing. #menreadtoo

Road MasterI know you said strong male leads. This obviously isn't that. I typically don't read this type of book by female authors or with female M.C.s. (No offense intended. It's nothing to do with the authors abilities or anything like that. But in my experience, they tend to put more emphasis on romance or the M.C. is a horrible example of the "Strong female character" trope in which she's just a Mary-sue for no discernible reason.) But in this series, the M.C. is very realistic, extremely well written, struggles, and you follow her growth from a scared, headstrong, naive adolescent to an experienced veteran of a growing magical war and the kings messenger service. It's a highly underrated series.

Road MasterThis is set in the D&D universe. The m.c. is a Drow elf or dark elf. Their entire society lives beneath the surface of the world in what's known as The Underdark. They worship an evil spider goddess and are a bunch of backstabbing, murderous, horrible people. But Drizzt just couldn't accept that or live that way. He's an actual good person. So he left and went to the surface. He is, hands down, one of the best fantasy characters I've ever encountered. Highly recommend.

Road MasterSpace bounty hunter. Gruff and grizzled, man's man, kind of guy. I've highly enjoyed this series. If he's interested in sci-fi, this is worth checking out.

Road MasterThis series is one of longest fantasy series ever. (No joke. It's up to 40-something books so far.) But don't be put off by that. It's not a massive undertaking. They're all set in the same place. A magical land called Xanth. Each book follows an entirely different cast of characters and its own, self-contained story. Magical creatures of every kind abound. Dragons, goblins, centaurs. Magical plants, magical people, everything you can think of. And puns GALORE. It tends to be a much more light-hearted fantasy series.

HaileyHas a mostly male cast, there's some romance in it but it's not a romance or romantasy series, would definitely reccomend to a male reader.

WestlyThis is a really good dystopian book (which isn’t what you asked for, but I think it’s a decent bridge btw horror and high fantasy for some reason). It’s a throughly interesting book, fast paced, two male leads, one female (it switches btw three ppl) and is written by Robert Evans who is a conflict journalist who often writes abt war torn areas, specifically during/after revolutions which adds an incredible element to the book, bc this is someone who knows what he’s talking abt. (Nothing is a prediction it’s just very well written and realistic at times.) He keeps it light though, explores topics well while not making it grim and dark.

WestlyHorror, weird as ****, very enjoyable, I love the way Jason Pargin even if I can only read a few a time; they’re very weird (in a good way but still) and the way they’re written is very fun and interesting but the prose isn’t impressing anyone so I need a break from them after one or two.
